8:30 am / Drug-Induced Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Nutrient Deficiency

Dr. D.H. John Kim, Pharm.D., FAARFM
"From the beginning of my life, I had a keen understanding of choosing the path that was right for me instead of what others thought I should do. Overall, what really matters is what you take and learn from each moment in life."
10:15 am / You're In Control! A Primer on Practical, Ethical, and Safety Considerations when Prescribing Controlled Substances
Dr. Bill Walter, ND
Associate Medical Director, Community Health Centers of Lane County, Oregon
Member, Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine
With the passage of Montana Senate Bill 100 this session, Naturopathic Physicians in Montana are about to have a powerful new set of tools available to help them help patients, in the form of the full range of pharmacotherapies available to our conventional colleagues.
Any treatment, of course, is not without its risks, and the "controlled substances" carry not only medical but also legal and ethical risks. This lecture will review the different DEA schedules of controlled substances, many of the common medication classes covered (specifically opioids, stimulants, and sedative-hypnotics), as well as how to safely prescribe.
In addition, recommendations will be made for safely, ethically, and legally prescribing these medications, to protect both the patient and one's
practice.
1:15 pm / A Naturopathic Approach to Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Dr. Todd Born, ND, CNS
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder clinical definition, DSM-V criteria, epidemiology, proposed etiologies, clinical presentation, diagnosis and evaluation, conventional
and naturopathic treatment options will be discussed, as this is a common reason for
appointments in a naturopathic/integrative clinic.
Goals and Objectives:
ï‚· Understand clinical presentation and DSM-V criteria.
ï‚· Understand conventional and more expanded diagnostic workup, to ascertain more
precise targets for therapy.
ï‚· Understand theoretical underlying etiologies of the disease, and how to address them with
treatment interventions that will improve outcomes.
ï‚· Be able to implement successful naturopathic interventions, which are evidence and
clinically based, to alleviate symptoms and hopefully cure the patient.
ï‚· Discuss the use commonly prescribed pharmaceutical medications, their indications and
side effects. These will include adolescent and adult medications.
2:45 pm / Understanding Hormone Replacement Therapy for Men
Peter Koshland, PharmD
We will explore the need for testosterone supplementation in men, including dosing, testing considerations, complementary therapy and risks.

Montana's Naturopathic Community
Healthcare is evolving. Naturopathic medicine is a solution for Montana.
Montana's naturopathic physicians are working for a stronger Montana in independent clinics, integrative health centers, and cancer centers across the state. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are trained in both natural and conventional approaches to prevent disease, treat acute illness, and address chronic health conditions. NDs collaborate with many other health care providers in ways that lower costs and improve long-term outcomes for their patients.
Naturopathic physicians are playing a central role in a healthier Montana and increasing access to personalized, cost-effective health care. Learn more...
