Lara Briden, ND
Clinical Guide to Progesterone, the Cinderella Hormone
12:30pm Sunday, Panelist 2:30pm Sunday
Progesterone has always played second fiddle to estrogen, thanks, in large part, to the simple accident of having been discovered second. In this session, Dr Lara Briden will start with a brief history of progesterone and explore why it has been both ignored and mistakenly blamed for side effects it does not cause. She’ll then make the case that the loss of progesterone is essentially what defines the onset of perimenopause and go on to survey the many clinical indications of this important hormone.
Lara Briden is a naturopathic doctor and the bestselling author of the books Period Repair Manual, Hormone Repair Manual, and Metabolism Repair for Women—practical guides to treating hormone problems with nutrition, supplements, and body-identical hormones.
A graduate of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (1997) and the University of Calgary (evolutionary biology), Lara serves on several scientific advisory committees, including The Centre for Ovulation and Menstruation Research (CeMCOR) at the University of British Columbia. She is a popular speaker and has delivered keynote presentations for the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (EndoANP), the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA), the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM), and the University of Canterbury.
Lara has consulting rooms in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she treats women with PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, perimenopause, and many other hormone- and period-related health problems.
